Hello Lit Families,
Please make sure to share your assignment calendar with your parents (a copy can also be found under the Literacy tab).
Many families are asking about the writing focuses and if they are a part of the homework. Great question!
For the first few weeks of Literacy, as a class, we start at the beginning of the whole writing focus procedure (a yellow copy of this is in your child's lit binder). From reading the text, to looking at the questions (writing focus), to finding the answers in the novel, to post-it notes, and so on until they are ready to write a complete and correctly formatted writing focus.
I like to model and take our time with the writing focus in class at the beginning of the school year, so I can get a good sense of your child as a reader, writer, and discusser as we work through one. It also gives the students a chance to have the procedure correctly modeled for them, so they can become more independent with the writing focuses as they build up their skills. This will lead to adding the writing focuses to the assignment calendar as homework.

This group is off to a great start! ***Here is the update to the assignment calendar: we added "Finish stickies for WF #1". Also, I told the class they can try to finish WF #1, which we started in class (It needs to be written in paragraph form-they know this!). IF they don't finish WF#1 by Friday, it's ok, as we will have time in class to work on it.
Hope this helps clear up any confusion! Please leave a comment if you read this. That way I know who I need to check in with.
