Dear Lit students and families,
Hope you had a fantastic first week back to school! I so love getting to know my new students. I can already tell this is going to be a great year!
The first week of literature was filled with procedures, set-up, and get to know each other activities. This week, we will be working on spelling and vocabulary procedures and the students will receive their novel. We will be reading "A Lion to Guard Us" by Clyde Robert Bulla. This novel a historical fiction set in 1609. Two sisters and their brother board a ship in London and travel to Jamestown (the first successful colony) to find their father. It's a lovely adventure book that I know the class will enjoy.
My plan for the first novel is to start it together. We will read it in class and also work on the writing focuses together. That way they can get the writing focus procedure down solid before attempting it on their own. The students are responsible for completing their spelling and vocabulary assignments as homework. It is super important to support your child with this, by giving them their weekly spelling and vocabulary practice test.
I will assign their first homework assignment on Friday, so believe your child when they tell you they don't have any lit homework. Please take a look at the Literacy section of this website for important information and assignment calendars (posting soon).
As alway, feel free to ask me questions through this website or by email: [email protected]
Best,
Mrs. Marron
